from Talk to Action

Amarillo, Texas isn't the kind of place where most people would expect to find a rock star. Amarillo invites visitors to "enjoy our wide-open spaces and stay a while" because that's what Amarillo has the most of '

Moiv, I've been thinking of you so much these past couple of weeks. This diary will go to the usual suspects on my list.

I continue to be in wonderment how you do this day in and day out. You continue to astonish.

Is there any talk of protest marches or organizing against this war on women? What can we do besides writing and petitioning and calling and emailing information back and forth?

Take care of yourself and know that you are in my heart and in my thoughts.

Cali, I agree with you 100%. Moiv is hands-down one of the best writers, and one of the best pro-choice advocates (along with Bayprairie) on the internet.

In Spanish they say "gracias por la flor" -- but coming from you, that flower is at least a dozen roses.

on our providers' list all the time. What we come up with is to keep sharing information, to keep speaking out, and above all, to keep giving the best care we can to the women who need us.

But we're always open to new ideas, so if you should be struck by a thunderbolt of inspiration, by all means don't hold back. ;-)

Frank Pavone

This photo is from 1993, and he's burning a copy of the newly-enacted FACE act in effigy. The FACE Act, you'll recall, made it a federal crime to forcibly blockade clinic entrances, or to use violence or threats of violence against abortion providers.

My coworkers and I spent most of the early and mid-90's being harassed, followed and otherwise threatened by another good "pro-life" Catholic who was the defendant in an early federal prosecution under the FACE Act. He and several others, including Flip Benham of OSA, were also sued by the late Dr. Norman Tompkins, whose medical practice and health were destroyed after he was targeted by them.

Thanks for the picture, Bill. Do you happen to have a link for it?

In 92 & 93 I worked at a clinic as an instrument tech. My job was to scrub, package and sterilize instruments, and make sure they were in exam rooms at all times. A pretty low-level job, to be sure. But every morning when I got to the clinic it was the same dash through the antis calling me names. I am forever grateful to the clinic escorts who were always gracious and always there to meet me. How they stood listening to the same tripe from the antis, day after day, is beyond me.

Maybe this is a little bit off topic, but I actually remember the escorts better than I do some of my co-workers, so I like to give them a bit of recognition when I can.

Moiv - It's a photo I took myself, and I put it on my Flickr account in order to post it here. The URL is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bill_jac/106871250/. I didn't include a link because there's nothing else there relating to the subject (unless pictures of our cats relate to the subject).

and I think we can all agree that your cats are far too classy to relate in any way to this particular ... mmm ... subject.

Oh yes, I remember the Terri Schiavo debacle quite well. As a matter of fact, I live less than a mile from that hospice. The day Randall Terry showed up, I knew everything was going to hell in a handbasket. There were people protesting all over the nearest busy intersection, posters of dead fetii on trucks next to McDonalds, bibles being waved in the air and people being arrested for trying to take their "sister Terri, water". Randall Terry is a terrorist, I wish nothing but the worst for that man. I hope he rots in hell (if I believed in hell).

In passing, also, I would like to say that the first time Adam had a chance he laid the blame on a woman."
