The Democratic Party's pick to run against Santorum endorses Alito!!!![]() words by bayprairie posted January 25, 2006 - 12:26am
Here's one good reason not to vote for the Democratic Party. Bob Casey, Jr. handpicked candidate of the national democratic party has endorsed Alito for the supreme court. READ IT AND WEEP LADIES. The democratic party is dead. They don't give a hoot about your freedom.
Back to the days of Jim Crow. George Wallace would be proud of this party. I wrote this letter to Senator Schumer today. I don't know if I can even say how angry I am with the Democratic Party without swearing. Suffice it to say I have been a very busy broad today. Senator Schumer ... You recruited and strongly endorsed Bob Casey, Jr. to be the Democratic candidate for the senate seat in Pennsylvania opposing Rick Santorum. Your decision to support Casey seems to be based on one criteria, 'electability.' You made your choice early in the race for 2006. And what does your candidate do? He comes out today in support of Alito, eleven months out from the Nov. 2006 election. He slaps you in the face while you are, seemingly, strongly against the confirmation of Alito. You are responsible for Casey being the Democratic candidate for the senate. He is strongly anti-choice. Casey is against stem-cell research, he is against gays being able to adopt and yet, you tell Democrats he deserves to be a senator. What of his 'electability' status in Pennsylvania ? Why would anyone vote for Casey when he walks in lockstep with Santorum on so many issues? How does he distinquish himself as being a different kind of politician and/or candidate as Santorum? It's become clear to many women in the Democratic Party that our leaders are more than willing to sell us out when leaders like you, Senator, walk all over our rights of choice. I can't help but believe this party will pay a high price if you don't do what it takes to regain our faith and loyalty. If you demand that Casey remove himself from the race, you would be making a serious statement to the women, like myself, who are thinking seriously of not voting Senator. I've been a Democrat for 40 years. I've voted since 1972. I've never voted for anyone that wasn't a Democrat. I'll stay home instead of voting for a candidate or a party that no longer respects women's rights. You will lose my vote Senator, your colleagues will lose my vote until you prove to me you are as loyal to me as I have been to you for decades. Do what's right Senator. Tell Bob Casey, Jr. he is the wrong candidate for the senate. Do what's right Senator, for women and for the Democratic leadership. Here's a press release put out my Senator Landrieu stating why she will vote for cloture on Alito. Because we have such a full plate of pressing issues before Congress, a filibuster at this time would be, in my view, very counterproductive. It is imperative that we remain focused on creating the tools New Orleans, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast will need to rebuild. This includes passing the Baker bill and allowing our state to keep its fair share of offshore energy revenues. We simply cannot afford to bring the Senate to a halt at a time when we need its action the most. If called to vote for cloture on Judge Alito's nomination, I will vote yes. Here is my response to Landrieu: Senator Landrieu, I just read your press release, and while I understand your frustration and resolve to rebuild the Gulf Coast, I'm having a difficult time with your voting for cloture in the confirmation of Alito. Women and minority rights will be set back decades under Alito if he is allowed to go to the Supreme Court. This president will be given unfettered executive power if Alito sits on the Supreme Court. Worker's rights will be denied, NSA wiretaps and surveillance will be allowed to continue without court orders, our ten-year-old daughters could be at risk of being stripped searched without warrants, our teenaged sons could be shot in the back by law enforcement for stealing $10. Women's right to choose could be criminalized. Abortion providers and women who seek and/or obtain an abortion could be imprisoned. So, while I understand your concern for the Gulf Coast, your responsibilities go beyond your constituents when it concerns the Supreme Court and where a Justice like Alito will take all of us as Americans. Your press release was very shortsighted, Senator. What you and many of your Democratic colleagues don't seem to understand is this, women are ready and willing to leave this party, we have drawn a line in the sand, when it comes to our rights being threatened by Alito's confirmation. For those of us who lived and were pregnant in the years before Roe v. Wade became the law of the land, we remember all too well what life was like for women and young girls. If you don't filibuster, we have a very difficult time believing you understand what the future will be for women and young girls. I'm sorely dissapointed and angry at what you had to say about your vote for cloture. It says so much about you as a woman and a senator. It's shocking really to think you truly feel this way. I hope you change your mind, for your sake and for the sake of the women who will pay a high price for your shortsightedness. I also called Senator Harry Reid's office inquiring if a filibuster was in the offing. This is how the call went: The staff member in Reid's office told me there's no plan to launch a filibuster at this time. I told her there hasn't been a time when it was more important than it is now. I told her many Democratic women will stay home before we vote for another Democrat if this party does not do the right thing by filibustering. I told her I've been a Democrat for almost 40 years, I've voted in every election since 1972 and I have always voted for Democrats. I told her she will not only lose my vote in 2006 and 2008 but they will lose my vote forever. I told her many, many other Democrats feel the same way. I told her we need to know this party is as loyal to us as we are to them. Then I told her to stop telling me, "I will pass this along" and instead answer my damned question on what will be important enough to filibuster if not Alito. She then said, "I will pass this along." I said, "you are all going to pay a high price for this chickenshit response, pass that along." The Democratic Party is shameless in their ability to take women for granted. They seriously think we will never call their bluff, that we will never walk away, that they are the only thing that's out there for us. What they fail to understand is that we no longer think of them as being there for us. Like my other relationships that didn't work, I have no problem going forward without this party, I will walk away and I will never feel the urge to look back. (1)
Just...WOW! How powerful are these word, and a standing ovation to you for giving them voice as you have. You truly speak for me too. I will not casst a vote for any Democrat who has walked away from women, even if it means no voting at all for the first time in a long life. Personally, I have progressed through disbelief, all sorts of outrage, and now find myself totally mired in terminal DISGUST! scribe (1)
that was fortifying to read.
I'll go to sleep smiling tonight on that one. Way to go, girl. :) We can help the Lilith Fund provide equal access for the women of Texas (1)
