Feeling Sporty?

i don't really follow sports. lot's of reasons i suppose. health problems prevent me from playing sports or even going to most sporting events. so my access to sports is on television, a virtual wasteland where women's sports are concerned.

i could go on forever about the lameness of sports coverage on tv. former players chattering endlessly about irrelevancies just to hear themselves talk. television's paranoid fear of occasional silence. lack of actual game coverage, such as explaining the meaning of rulings by officials. commercial breaks right at the peak of the action. and on a more personal level, if i feel an affinity for one of the teams or players i find the suspense of "who is going to win?" more stressful than exciting.

but mostly... it's because i just can't stand watching a bunch of overpaid, pumped up, self important men be glorified for hitting things with sticks.

which brings me to my question. do we have any members who are feeling sporty? if so, would you be willing to post news now and then of what's going on in the world of women's sports? i'd love to hear about important victories, major upsets, and individual achievements.

i know, i could look that stuff up myself if i were so inclined. but i'm not. it requires too much filtering for a non sporty woman such as myself. i'm guessing i'm not the only member of this blog who feels as i do, who would love to be more informed about women's sports.

so, feeling sporty? if you are, i know that i, for one, would love to read your posts.

I used to write about sports for magazines, and just helped to write my college's Title IX compliance review. I have a daughter who's a jock. So sports is in my blood. I'd be happy to post on women's sports from time to time.

When it comes to categories, I keep having head-smacking moments -- duh! Why didn't I think of that before?

I do. I used to do a column for the monthly Mensa newsletter called "good sports" and because my first name is non-gender specific, people would be surprised when they met me and found I was not a man.

I have a lot of thoughts about sports in general, and I'll be happy to post a diary on it if I can make it cohesive. :D

and if it isnt cohesive? post it anyway! I'd love to read about sports. And i'm particularly interested in Title IX too, as mentioned upthread.
