Santorum's words about feminists have the same ring as Senator Joseph McCarthy who started a witch hunt in the 1950's to root out evil doers in government.

McCarthy smeared people. He said there were Communists in the Administration and our government was no place for Communists.

The implication always was that Communists were actually agents of Russia, or if not agents, they were sympathetic. There were out-and-out Communists and then there were the "fellow travelers" who were on that road.

McCarthy had hearings to expose the Communists and he came up with names and numbers - always a moving target since who the Communists were (sneaky guys these Communists) - kept changing.

There were people who were foreign agents in the US government just as there were spies for the USA in the Soviet government. These sorts of scandals go back to Dreyfus in the last century and chase back to the beginning of time.

But there is a difference between naming an agent of a foreign power and a generalized witch hunt.

Communism has collapsed in the Soviet Union. It thrives in China. America has sort of an uneasy truce with Chinese Communists.

So fighting Communism is no longer part of American foreign policy. Rather, it is the dreaded feminists who brings dread to the men in the halls of power. And like McCarthy, they are not even sure of the names of the enemy.

Santorum attacks Steinem and he attacks Senator Clinton - both are women. Notice he does not attack Senator Kennedy who has backed the Equal Rights Amendment, ERA. You will notice that his type never goes after men who are sympathetic to equal rights.

Once again, I will suggest that sexism is a form of racism. Racism is discriminating either in favor of or against a person because of a naturally occurring biological variation over which the person has no control.

If someone said that a black senator was causing trouble and he attacked only blacks, his racism would be obvious. Santorum, in the interview, attacks no leaders who are pro-woman, except women.

This is a new form of McCarthyism and I oppose it.

at the idea of Gloria Steinem as a radical. Hee hee. I suppose if your mindset is still in 1966 then Gloria would seem radical. What a wanker.

Stephanopoulos confronted him about his statements a couple years ago where he blamed the child molestations and cover-ups in the Catholic Church on liberals in Boston. And Santorum refused to retract those statements today. Nor did he acknowledge that the fact that child molesations happened all over the country meant that this wasn't just a problem of "liberals."

Let's face it. The guy is totally bonkers ... or he thinks we're all just stupid. Maybe both.
