What is your stance on "the abortion issue"?![]() a poll submitted by media girl posted July 22, 2005 - 3:18pm
I am for total and unrestricted reproductive rights -- it's nobody else's business 92% (23 votes) I am "pro-choice" but with some restrictions 0% (0 votes) Undecided 0% (0 votes) I am "pro-life" but against government laws banning abortions 8% (2 votes) Ban it! Shoot the doctors! Throw the women in prison! 0% (0 votes) other (comment below) 0% (0 votes) Total votes: 25 Everyone is just like me. I represent 100% of the populace! (1)
![]() Obviously, it would be great if abortion never needed to happen.... I'm in favor of finding a way to make the human race evolve with ON/OFF switches in our reproductive organs.... I'm also honest enough to admit that I would probably have one rather than carry an unwanted and unexpected child to term. I've never wanted to be pregnant, no way, no how. I'm tempted to print up bumper stickers that say "I'll let you make my medical decisions if you let me make yours" (0)
![]() But we do have that on/off switch, Sioned. It's called menopause. Therefore unless you want children you should never fuck til you're in your 50s. (0)
OK this is exactly what I'm talking about when I say we need to be warry of ALL the men on "our side" and not just kos. From Booman
Women have been posting diaries all day. Media Girls was at the top of Booman for the better part of the morning, but her name is not even mentioned. Per Booman, Men decided. Thankyou! I think what we need here is an Amendment to the Constitution to Circumcise, decided by the PTA. (1)
![]() I thought media girl's diary was great. I plan on continuing the battle by the side of my sisters ... My response to booman is right here media girl put up a great one right here (0)
![]() this is rich! i posted these very same opening paragraphs around 3 a.m. this morning. i didn't noticeyou posted them yesterday until just now (2 pm). guess we're both on the the same page! (1)
![]() right, because they are my clones. I'm offended by that... but it's all good, I can handle. Speak your mind. But no... you can first of all distrust ALL your allies enough to not be suprised when you learn something more of where they stand. When people have not made clear where they stand... those are the biggest suprises because you assume you have agreement in unspoken areas... which is impossible. I reserve the right to change where I stand, but not in a way that requires more than a modicum of wariness (an amount of wariness equal to "open mindedness"). I'm sure you'll see how the wording you used is classicly bigoted, but I won't hold it against you so far as I understand the problem as one partially in the language itself. (0)
I'm mistrustful because of the sexism that is very prevalent in the Democratic party. That isn't something the party is "quiet" on. I take it as a given that the men we are along are feminists. Did you go over to Booman and criticize his sexism? To Kos? Are their sites labeled as "men's" sites? I'm sure that you didn't...validating my concerns about the men in the Democratic Party. Some things for you to think about. (1)
And not a single person mentioned that Media Girl had addressed the issue. Sexism isn't just calling someone a "Women Studies Bitch". Much more oppressive is the oppression by ommision. Like she was invisible. It was incredibly offensive. And no one said a word. (1)
who share your criticisms of some bloggers to be everywhere on every thread, all the time? If pyrrho, or myself, or anyone who shares the critiques you outline does not pop in a criticize in every instance where sexism by omission or comission, then we are complicit? That's not very fair to us. I am sure that I could find hundreds of threads in support of "Staying the Course" in Iraq where you did not comment in opposition or in support of immediate withdrawal, the trial of Bush et al for war crimes, and the paying of reparations to Iraq. Does that mean I get to criticize you because you were not on those threads criticizing warmongers? (0)
But if he comes here to criticize a woman on a woman centered site for expressing anger at sexism he should at the very least be in the face of both parties...otherwise its just the old kicking the victims. (1)
![]() I did not criticise your anger at the sexism, I share it. I criticise your use of sexism while expressing it. See, you said it was a reason not to trust me, for I am a man, and if you didn't mean to generalize that way I gave you an opportunity to clarify. I guess I understand your defensiveness but I don't understand your accusations toward me... and I don't understand why it's a big deal for me to point out slightly sexist language. (0)
![]() for over a month... and very little to kos in that time. You have no reason to doubt me except as you state you have reason to distrust all men. But NO, perhaps you have just as much reason to not trust all people. If you don't get how that language works whenever it's used... hmmm, it's pretty obvious... find someone and then say "see all left handed people are untrustworthy". I got your point, pointed out the language, you cling to both I guess... why not drop the language and just keep the other point? (0)
![]() none of this is about sexism, or who adheres to whatever site .It is all about self determination and if you support it or not, period. (0)
![]() ok lemme say I do- I love you and MMitM and all the other gentlemen on kos an booman and so forth.Nevertheless- it makes NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE WHAT MEN THINK--it is OUR DECISION ,it always has been and it always will be. (0)
![]() a person makes a personal medical decision... if they ever make a man pregnant, in that case it would be a man, until then, it's always a woman's issue. that's why I think fighting for so-called women's issues is actually the same as fighting for general rights of liberty and privacy. It's similar with other women's issues, such as the treatment of women in general as a human rights issue. (0)
![]() I hope this doesn't get any more heated, it was a small deal. I hope DreamOfPeace won't be holding it against me. But I can't pretend to abandon my point when I think it's valid. I will admit it was a small point, but still important I think. And I agree the booman excerpt seems somewhat sexist. I don't want to detract from that, I'm not arguing against that at all. While I'm sure that booman did not mean to be sexist in his statement, subconscious or inadvertent sexism is of course perhaps an even bigger problem than overt sexism, in a way. (0)
