from what i'm gleaning from the msm, he sounds like a personable guy who will erode abortion rights at every opportunity.

Why the rush nomination, when confirmation hearings will not be until September? Why now? Rove?

Is there another retirement coming?

And who is this guy? Nobody seems to know. He's been a hired gun most of his career.

How many places have you heard this? What do you think about this political calculus?

Will that get over-turned? I am not saying it in seriousness...just in terms of how people of the majority might see things.

i read this very thing today, and i think it was here too! and if im not mistaken it was said by someone who should know better.

overturing roe wont benefit any female, democrat or republican! ::big doh::: funny how that works isnt it? this is simply out-of-power partisans sitting around imagining advanages when there are none. roe overturned, is a defeat for the democrats, no ifs ands or buts. advantage? oh well yeah maybe, in their dreams.

but not in mine. not in my dreams. there is no benefit to it and there never will be.

I said that it was conventional wisdom... and that it was wrong.

So, the confirmation's not until September, eh? Good--time to start running attack ads in the swing states.

AWMOTC - another white man on the court.

The fact he did not put a woman on the Court speaks paragraphs to the kind of guy we have as President.

Yet those who know Roberts say he, unlike Souter, is a reliable conservative who can be counted on to undermine if not immediately overturn liberal landmarks like abortion rights and affirmative action. Indicators of his true stripes cited by friends include: clerking for Rehnquist, membership in the Federalist Society, laboring in the Ronald Reagan White House counsel's office and at the Justice Department into the Bush years, working with Kenneth Starr among others, and even his lunchtime conversations at Hogan & Hartson. "He is as conservative as you can get," one friend puts it. In short, Roberts may combine the stealth appeal of Souter with the unwavering ideology of Scalia and Thomas.
